The story of Jean Maystre and his capitelle - Guided tour of Uzès, a city of art and history

Presentation

More than 150 dry-stone huts have been inventoried in the commune of Uzès. But can we go beyond this simple inventory towards the beginning of a history of Uzès capitelles in the 18ᵉ and 19ᵉ centuries?
This is what we'll discover with the story of "Jean Maystre", owner in 1818 of this recently rediscovered capitelle in the Eure valley. We'll discover what tools are now available to the researcher to initiate the history of a truly popular heritage.

**Departure in front of the Maison du Patrimoine.
Please note: 60 m difference in altitude. Part of the route is on footpaths. Please bring suitable footwear.

Renovation work, phase 2: the terraces - until the end of November 2025.
After the complete reconstruction of the capitelle in spring 2025, the renovation worksite, led by the Pierre-Mendès-France social center in Saint Quentin la Poterie, is now tackling the walls and landscaping of the "faïsses", the three terraces that used to be cultivated at the foot of the capitelle.
The renovation site is not open to the public outside organized tours. However, you will be able to see the work in progress from PR 39 (please do not disturb the work in progress).
