This adaptation chooses to retell the fairy tale by picking up the story a few years later, when Hansel and Gretel have grown up and become adults. The program features theater, pop-up elements, and live music.
A brother and sister abandoned by their parents. What are the consequences? What traumas? Was it a real or symbolic abandonment?
Through play, mischief, and the energy of childhood, they will reinvent their story and rediscover a joy and lightheartedness that their “seriousness” as adults had sometimes pushed aside.
At the beginning of the story, Hansel has lost his will to live. He seems stuck, unable to move forward.
Gretel, his sister, is convinced that something “got stuck” inside him that night—the night their parents abandoned them in the forest. She suggests a game, with the help of her musician accomplice: to go back to their past, relive the events of their childhood, taking turns playing the roles of the Father, the wicked Stepmother, the Witch..., in an attempt to free themselves from them.
A charming duo takes us through this fairy tale with an original approach, featuring beautiful set design that uses pop-up techniques and music performed by a surprising instrumental ensemble.
