Concert by Bridget Yee and Walid Ben Selim - Émergences Water Festival
Presentation
As part of the 5th edition of the Emergences Water Festival, the first evening will consist of two parts: a piano recital by the young Malaysian pianist Bridget Yee and mystical Sufi chants by Walid Ben Selim.
The Artists:
A humanist singer and multifaceted composer, and a lover of poetry to which he has dedicated his artistic career, Walid Ben Selim was born in Casablanca and moved to France in 2002. He currently lives in Sète. Drawing on a formative clash of cultures, Walid Ben Selim serves as a voice for the greatest names in Sufi poetry. Through this mythical, mystical, and millennia-old Orient, he seeks to capture the primal vibration in an epic and meditative flow. In this recital, he accompanies himself on the piano, using just a few notes to underscore his intimate and profound singing.
Bridget Yee, a young Malaysian pianist, is renowned for her interpretations marked by imagination, intensity, and emotional depth, as well as her ability to breathe new life into the classical repertoire by juxtaposing it with contemporary works, creating unique narrative programs. She made a notable debut in France and Germany, receiving special recognition on France Inter. Among her standout performances are concerts at Wigmore Hall and Yokohama Minato Mirai Hall, as well as an appearance at the Aspen Music Festival. She will open this evening with a classical recital featuring works by Rameau, Gershwin, Scriabin, and Chopin.
